Obesity in children

Childhood Obesity:
Statistics show that obesity in children is increasing at an alarming rate all over the world. Childhood obesity is caused by various factors. Besides genes and hereditary factors, an individual's calorie consumptions that exceeds the amount burnt through physical activity is the main contributor to childhood obesity. Besides this a sedentary lifestyle coupled with lack of exercise is also a common contributor to obesity.

Risks associated with Childhood obesity:
Childhood obesity can bring with it many health risks which include high blood pressure, heart disease, type II diabetes, liver disease, stroke, sleep disorders and even some cancers. Psychologically, it may cause a child to suffer from feelings of low self esteem, anxiety, and ever depression.

Preventing Childhood Obesity:
Even though statistics of childhood obesity are going to continue upward, the situation concerning childhood obesity can be prevented and rectified.
Firstly, make sure that your home is a loving and supporting environment. Avoid non-nutritional foods and limit media time.
Get your child involved in some sort of physical activity after school hours.
Walk your child to school if possible
Limit the number of chocolates, junk food, and candy products
Consult a nutritionist for a proper diet plan if need be
By promoting healthy active lifestyles, we sure can keep obesity at bay if no stop it.
